It is found in a small area in western South Africa， growing in a sandy soil with some water and lots of sun. The caudex can grow to three centimetres in diameter， the entire plant from one to eight centimetres in height - depending on how flat it grows. The flowers are white.The genera name from Greek gethyon， ‘bulb’.
